A family legacy

What is a photograph? Is it a picture? a story? does it have life? Does it make permanent all those fleeting moments we don’t see? Can a photograph define our family history?

To me, photography is not merely the best possible representation of ourselves in this moment looking like the version of ourselves we want to project. It is about future. The stories we capture today will become the past of tomorrow. If in the future there is no record of the past – did it even exist? How will that shape your future? That to me is the whole point of photography. To tell stories to the future, craft a legacy of today.

I was gifted the opportunity to craft Katrina & Matt’s legacy way back in May 2013 when I photographed their engagement portrait. Then there was the wedding…

and then baby Zahlee…

and now its Katrina’s Mum Kerry’s turn to complete the picture with a family portrait of her own with ALL the kids and grandkids…

Kylie & Kelvin – Feb 28th, 2016

Holy moly, I don’t think I’ve seen a Groom look quite as cool as Kelvin did on his wedding day last weekend. Kylie looked amazing too and their ceremony was shared with guests at Cronulla’s Salmon Haul Reserve.

Melissa & Aarron – 31st Jan 2015

Melissa and Aaron’s big day caused me a few sleepless nights! After all this time shooting weddings, I had never before encountered a live Barn Owl delivering the rings during the ceremony. So the pressure was on!

The owl was a spectacular success and the shot was captured – I could again breathe! Phew! The ceremony at Lilli Pilli Point was perfect. Aarron wanted to specially feature their three gorgeous Chev’s during the photo shoot, so we headed down to Tom Ugly’s bridge for some serious fun. The whole day was beautifully capped off by a huge party at the Rydges Cronulla.

Thanks Mel & Aarron, you’ve tested my mettle today, but I had one of the most fun days with you all! All my love for a wonderful marriage.

Petrina & Justin’s Wedding Day

Petrina & Justin celebrated their long-awaited nuptuals on Sunday along with family and friends as well as their adorable 2yr-old daughter, Libby. Their good friend Prue was their first-time celebrant and all the guests enjoyed a very personal and heart-felt ceremony. We strolled through Munro Park in Cronulla and enjoyed the beautiful geraniums, then it was off to the Old Library for a very stylish cocktail party.

Congratlations to both of you! You have waited long enough, now all there is to do is enjoy this very special time with each other…

Laura & Scott – 10th Nov 2012

The rain cleared just in time for Laura & Scotts ceremony on Saturday. After an entertaining ceremony by Fr. John at St Pat’s Sutherland, we headed down to Blackwoods Beach and Darook Park for some fantastic shots. Then Laura & Scot partied the night away at Summer Salt.
