I was most fortunate recently to meet the delightful Sarah and Ali when they visited the studio for their very first family portrait with their gorgeous son, Harrison. They have been interviewed for the next edition of LOTL magazine where we will be featuring in each edition, a same sex family telling the story of their journey to parenthood in all its wonders and trials. A family legacy

What is a photograph? Is it a picture? a story? does it have life? Does it make permanent all those fleeting moments we don’t see? Can a photograph define our family history?

To me, photography is not merely the best possible representation of ourselves in this moment looking like the version of ourselves we want to project. It is about future. The stories we capture today will become the past of tomorrow. If in the future there is no record of the past – did it even exist? How will that shape your future? That to me is the whole point of photography. To tell stories to the future, craft a legacy of today.

I was gifted the opportunity to craft Katrina & Matt’s legacy way back in May 2013 when I photographed their engagement portrait. Then there was the wedding…

and then baby Zahlee…

and now its Katrina’s Mum Kerry’s turn to complete the picture with a family portrait of her own with ALL the kids and grandkids…

Sophia’s first portrait

One of the most satisfying parts of my job is when I get to see my clients at numerous stages of their lives. I first met Carly 10 years ago when she and a bunch of gal pals got together and had me photograph them all to celebrate their finishing high-school. So I was delighted when Carly connected with me (via Justine, another one of the gal pal gang – thanks Justine! I look forward to shooting your family portrait soon too 😉 so I could shoot her husband and absolutely adorable new bub Sophia. Too much cuteness for one afternoon! So awesome to see you again Carly and I loved capturing this new chapter in your life. Can’t wait for the next one!

The Ryder Family Portrait

What a glorious afternoon we had for the Ryder family portrait! Jo approached me to do her (long awaited) family photos not just because they needed an update, but because her beloved mother and father-in-law were visiting from the UK and would soon be flying home. Jo loves Como and we worked together to include all her (and my) favourited bits of Como before we lost the light. I loved your chosen wardrobe for the shoot – you cant go wrong with combinations of classic white & blue. Stunning! Thanks for sharing this special moment for your family with me, it was an amazing shoot and you have some killer shots too!

Hanh & Craig’s Family Day

I shot Hanh & Craig’s wedding nearly seven years ago! I can’t believe it’s been that long. That’s the wonderful thing about my job, following couples as they start their lives together, then being there to capture those wonderful family moments that define us all in the end.

It was lovely to see issy as she has grown since last I photographed her and it was great to meet Hanh’s siblings and their families too.

Washington Family Portrait

A quick trip down from Bris Vegas and a Xmas voucher from Mum meant I had the delight of shooting Daniel & Cass last week out at Boat Harbour with their lovely daughter Chloe. Not to be outdone, Tango the Australian Bulldog tagged along and very nearly stole the show…

Julie & Georgia’s new adventure

Julie is our winner of the JettyBlue family portrait we donated to Talin’s Wish Charity Raffle way back in June this year. Julie and her beautiful daughter Georgia are moving to the Sunshine Coast in only a couple of weeks time and used this portrait sitting to capture forever some lovely memories of their favourite Cronulla beach spot to take with them on their new adventure.

This mother & daughter team have a wonderful relationship full of fun and laughter. They have a wonderful energy and between the two of them, they’ll put the “Shine” back into Sunshine Coast.

It was a pleasure to meet you both and I wish you all the luck in the world as you write the next chapter into the book of your lives. How exciting!
